The 38-year-old “Flashing Lights” rapper announced he wants to run for presidency a few years from now while accepting his Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Music Video Awards Sunday night.
“I will die for the art, for what I believe in”, he went on. It’s about ideas. People with ideas. Swift then thought the comment was about her nomination, and she replied to Nicki, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you“.
Trump also sarcastically hinted that he inspired West’s 2020 run: “I said, ‘That’s very interesting”.
The rapper made the weird announcement at the end of his Video Vanguard acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards over the weekend.
His impromptu speech came after he contemplated on the controversial 2009 event when he took the microphone from the “Bad Blood” singer and VMA award victor Taylor Swift. And according to him, producers did not know whether or not West was going to perform a medley of hits or just give a lengthy speech until he hit the stage.
“I think it’s still too early [to make that] decision”, he said.
But before he kicks off his campaign for the White House, West will have another task on his hands: outdoing Miley Cyrus as host.
“Y’all might be thinking right now, ‘I wonder, did he smoke some before he came out here?’ The answer is ‘yes.’ I rolled up a little something, I knocked the edge off”, he confessed.
“After that night, the stage was gone but the affect it had on people remained”, he said. He said that he is there in the fight for the artists and was guilty of being disrespectful to the artists.
“I’m gonna let you finish!”
You can now buy T-shirts, sweatshirts, buttons and posters that say “Yeezy for President”, “Yes, we Kan”, and “Yeezus 2020”, references to West’s nickname.
