Rihanna releases new album on Jay Z’s Tidal
Her fans were growing restless with her album oft-delayed for over a year with no release date in sight.
Surprisingly, Rihanna‘s previously released singles including “B*tch Better Have My Money”, “American Oxygen” and “FourFiveSeconds”, the collaboration with Kayne West and Paul McCartney, do not appear on the album’s track list. But everybody else’s ways be damned: Anti proves Rihanna should play by her own rules more often.
The Recording Industry Association of America awarded Rihanna’s new album a platinum certification today, meaning that a million copies reached the public. Sure, Rihanna may have convened the Avengers of Top 40 pop (Drake, Timbaland, and a slew of other hitmakers receive credits), but they’re all cogs in the machinery of her broader vision. I’m so grateful that you appreciate the #ANTI album! Over a bass-heavy beat (and what sounds like the iPhone text sending noise?) Rihanna takes down her haters with lyrics like, “And I ain’t never liked a broke bitch”, “All my haters so-so broke, pipe down”, and “All you lame ass bitches is a no go”.
Anti’s fresh stylings coalesce, of all places, on her version of Tame Impala’s psych-synth epic “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”.
When Rihanna’s album Anti suddenly dropped on January 27, many were surprised to see it contained a cover of a Tame Impala song.
