Rihanna’s Anti downloaded a million times in just 15 hours
After months of rumors, false release dates, and a series of promo videos collaborated with Samsung the Navy (Rihanna’s fan base) finally can sit back and relax.
The 27-year old released her hindered and much-soughted eighth studio album exclusively on Tidal, after the fledgling service prematurely leaked it for fans.
Following the album’s Wednesday night release, Rihanna took to Twitter to thank her fans for their love and support. “Work”, her new single with Drake, tops the iTunes charts.
While the single “Work” (featuring Drake) is number 1 in nearly 100 countries on its first day of release, it was also the most heard song on the more than 1,200 stations monitored by Nielsen Music for the Billboard Hot 100.
Only two songs unveiled in 2015 made the final cut: “James Joint”, which she posted on her website, and “Higher”, which she first previewed in a series of Instagram posts.
With her world tour due to kick off in the States next month, we’re sure the new album will be coming soon. Because “Work” premiered on Tidal and nobody has time for that, listen to a radio rip of “Work” below.
This is RiRi’s first album since releasing Unapologetic in 2012. Jay Z purchased the service’s parent company Aspiro for $56m (£39.1m) and signed the likes of Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Kanye West, Madonna and Calvin Harris as co-owners.
As well as a crop of new material, Anti also contains a cover of Tame Impala’s “New Person” – although previously released singles “B*tch Better Have My Money” and “American Oxygen” do not feature. Since debuting on Tidal around 9:45 p.m. ET, the album has been streamed over 13 million times in 14 hours, Tidal confirmed to EW.
