Rihanna’s ‘ANTI’ Free Downloads Run Out, New Album Makes Massive Streaming Numbers
As of Thursday lunchtime, the song was still free on Tidal, Jay-Z and Beyonce’s streaming service, and had made number one in 70 countries.
Updated: 10 p.m. EST: Not wanting to close the barn door after the horse has fled, Tidal has now officially re- (rih-?) released the album.
Rihanna in a teaser trailer ahead of her new album, Anti. The stream numbers do not include the free downloads of the album Rihanna gave away, meaning that the total stream count is likely much, much higher. “Work” represents the third time that Drake and Riri have collaborated, after pairing up for “What’s My Name” for the singer’s 2010 record Loud and the title track from Drake’s 2011 album Take Care. Since debuting on Tidal around 9:45 p.m. ET, the album has been streamed over 13 million times in 14 hours, Tidal confirmed to EW. She’ll also be releasing a 16-track deluxe edition on Friday, the day Anti was meant to drop.
For the past five years, fans were able to see watch Rihanna’s releases in the month of November. Once all the codes are used up, Tidal will be offered for purchase with the help of Tidal’s download store.
Rihanna also recently announced that she will be embarking on a worldwide tour starting February 2016 with rumoured boyfriend Travis Scott. Creeping synths compliment Rihanna’s dizzying words as she repeats: work, turn, dirt and love.
Music industry magazine Billboard said late Tuesday that Anti was expected to come out this week. Even the first single that was connected with the project – the edgy, but memorable “FourFiveSeconds” with Kanye West and Paul McCartney – was more immediate than “Work“.
