Ringing Bells’ smartphone to cost Rs. 251
An Indian start-up phone maker called Ringing Bells has launched Freedom 251, a 4-inch smartphone running Android 5.1 and offering pre-installed apps like Facebook, YouTube, Google Play and WhatsApp. Freedom 251 houses a 1,450mAh battery, which the company claims will last a day on single charge.
To book the smartphone, a buyer must go to the company’s website http://www.freedom251.com/ and click on the booking option button on the homepage. It’s name reflects the fact that it will cost consumers just 251 Indian Rupees or $3.67 using current currency calculations. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Ringing Bells Freedom 251 packs a 3.2-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 0.3-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
Bookings for the Freedom 251 open on February 18 at 6am and close on 21 February at 8pm.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar will launch the smartphone “Freedom 251” on February 17.
The phone will come preinstalled with a few made-in-India apps including Women Safety, Swacch Bharat, Fisherman, Farmer and Medical.
The main difference between is Freedom 251 is not enabled with 4G / LTE technology but in case of Ringing Bell 101 has the LTE technology.
The smartphone industry is now saturated in many markets, but previous year analyst firm Strategy Analytics predicted that cost-conscious mobile users in India and China will drive the demand for dual-SIM smartphones. The company promises 1-year warranty for the phone, and that it can be serviced at over 650 centres across India. Priced at just Rs. 251 ($4), the smartphone definitely has a lot to offer and comes with pretty decent hardware that we usually expect to see on devices priced much higher.
Connectivity-wise, it features 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, and Global Positioning System.
