Ringo Star Auctions First Copy Of The Beatles’ White Album
Starr is in possession of the first-ever copy of ‘The Beatles” aka The White Album, their ninth studio album that was released in 1968 and has songs like ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’, “Helter Skelter’ and ‘Back in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
The original copies of The Beatles’ White Album have numbers on the covers indicating in what order in the printing process those copies were made.
Starr’s copy will be sold by Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills on December 3-5. It was assumed that No 0000001 belonged to John Lennon, who Paul McCartney once said “shouted loudest” for it. But it turns out the drummer has had the record all along, and kept it locked away in a London bank vault for more than 35 years.
Auctioneers expect the bidding to start at $20,000, and exceed $60,000 for the rare album. While the first four pressings were owned by The Beatles, No. 0000005 reportedly sold at an auction for $30,000.
A 2000 Mercedes coupe once owned by George Harrison and acquired by Starr after Harrison died is expected to go for $60,000 – $80,000.
The album, listed on the website of LA auction house Julien’s, has already received three bids, with the current bid being $42,500 (£28,202).
Proceeds are expected to top $10 million, and will benefit Starr’s charity, The Lotus Foundation.
