Rio 2016 Olympics: Weightlifter suffers sickening injury as elbow gives way
When you’re pushing your body to the extreme limits there’s always a chance it can buckle..
Olympic weightlifting is one of the most insane and intense sports an athlete can compete in.
The olympian dropped the huge weight behind his head as medical teams rushed to his aid on stage.
But when he attempted the clean and jerk, his left arm gave way and he had to take evasive action.
Karapetyan’s injury horror comes after a string of serious injuries at the Rio Olympics.
Recently, in Rio Olympics, French gymnast Samir Ait Said had broken his leg while attempting to land a vault on the first day of competition.
The 20-year-old Karapetyan won the European championships this year and finished third at the world championships last year. Chinese lifter Lu Xiaojun claimed silver, while Egypt’s Mohamed Ihab earned bronze.
She brushed off the incident to win the women’s 69kg category.
Even the best of the best can come up injured, as evidenced by Andranik Karapetyan of Armenia.
