Rio Paralympics: Nigeria win more gold medals
Ejike first broke the Paralympic record by lifting 136kg before subsequently adding lifts of 138kg and 142kg to seal the world record and hand Nigeria with their third gold medal of the Games.
Eventual Silver medallist Egypt’s Fatma Omar had tried to toe the line of the Nigerian, but had to settle for 2nd place with her lift of 140kg.
Tzu-Hui lifted 131kg to pip Mexico’s Perla Barcenas who thought she had earned it at 126kg.
Team Nigeria still remains ninth in the overall medal table with six gold, two silver and one bronze.
Meanwhile China maintained her lead on the overall medals table with 41gold, 33silver and 24bronze while Britain with 24 gold is second, Ukraine is third with 19 gold and U.S. remains fourth with 13 gold. She also won a Silver medal in London four years ago where she competed in the -56kg category.
Ndidi Nwosu on Monday afternoon landed Nigeria’s fifth gold medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympics, beating the defending champion to win women’s -73kg Powerlifting event.
China’s Lei Liu took Gold with a lift of 221kg, smashing the Paralympic Record and World Record, while Iraq’s Rasool Mohsin clinched Silver with a lift of 220kg.
The four of James Fox, Pam Relph, Dan Brown and Grace Clough shouted and punched the air as the Paralympics squad looked to repeat the success on the water than their Olympic colleagues had achieved.
Jody Cundy, Jon-Allan Butterworth and Louis Rolfe’s eighth gold in the velodrome came after an earlier gold from Lora Turnham and Corrine Hall who won the women’s tandem B 3km pursuit.
