RIP Yvonne Craig, TV’s First Batgirl
Twitter users expressed their condolences after learning about the death of Craig whose Batgirl character paved the way for female superheroes in media.
The news was posted to her official website last night and she passed away on Monday at her home in Pacific Palisades surrounded by family.
She acted alongside Adam West and Burt Ward, who played Batman and Robin respectively. Yvonne’s nephew Christopher Carson formally announced in that she was struggling from breast cancer, which had metastasized to her liver.
She also secured a place in pop culture history as an Orion slave girl named Marta in the original Star Trek episode “Whom Gods Destroy”.
Yvonne’s entertainment career originally began on stage.
During her career, Craig appeared as a guest star in many television series, including The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Mod Squad and many more.
Craig starred in numerous tv line throughout her existence and worked amongst others, opposite Bing Crosby, George Hamilton and James Coburn, her obituary says.

Later in life, Craig worked as a real estate broker before going into the prepaid phone card business and then writing a book in 2000 titled, “From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond“.
