Rise of the Tomb Raider
The Tomb Raider reboot will feature Lara’s first adventure, and is believed to be an origins story similar to that of the recent video game revival. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who wrote “Hibernation”, is in talks to write the screenplay. But still, Rise of the Tomb Raider is built on a can’t-lose foundation – Tomb Raider was so strong that more-of-the-same still plays extremely well.
That incredible sequence isn’t even part of Croft’s main mission in Rise of the Tomb Raider, the exquisite, daring and really quite dark sequel to 2013’s well-rounded reboot. The project is a collaboration between four companies-GK Films, Warner Bros, MGM, and Square Enix. For our thoughts on the title, check out our Rise of the Tomb Raider review.

That variety also extends to your own play style, with the game allowing you to grow Lara’s abilities along branching skill trees, from combat to scavenging/crafting to stealth. Much like the Uncharted games, and their gradual implementation of grand set pieces and high-action sequences, Rise of the Tomb Raider delivers on all fronts. It’s a fearless franchise that can take on the behemoth that is Fallout 4, but by choosing the same release date, developers Crystal Dynamics showed nearly unbelievable confidence in this edition of Croft’s 20-year adventuring career. Lara herself is a bit problematic, coming across as crazed on her quest for the Divine Source, a fact not helped by voice artist Camilla Luddington’s constant breathy whisper. Rise of the Tomb Raider is now out in the shelves exclusive for Xbox One. In the mean time, let the rumours continue, as to which actress is going to get cast as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.
Lara Croft made her cinematic debut back in 2001, when Angelina Jolie donned the archaeologist’s twin pistols and trademark bosom-enhancing tank top. There’s plenty of time for speculation, as the film is heading into development as we speak.
In the meantime, Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider are available now on various Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
