Risky Reliant Robin driver sought
The manouevre has been condemned as “extremely dangerous” by the British Transport Police, who estimated that the damage caused was worth up to £15,000.
The baffling footage shows the auto race over the crossing, before inexplicably reversing back on to the crossing as the barriers come down.
Then, as the barriers drop because a train is approaching, the motorist reverses at speed, colliding with the first fence and ending up on the tracks.
The driver then reversed the auto into another set of barriers causing them to bend sharply.
The auto then stopped on the tracks and a passenger got out, walking calmly away towards the edge of the train track.
‘We have launched an investigation into this incident and are now working to identify the driver of this distinctive vehicle.
Both of the barriers had to be fixed at a cost of between £6,000 and £15,000, according to the BTP.
Liz Pearson, community safety manager for Network Rail said: “This mindless act at Pinxton level crossing has caused damage to the railway, something which ultimately costs train passengers, and was also incredibly unsafe”.
British Transport Police released CCTV footage on Thursday, July 30, of an incident at a rail crossing in Derbyshire, England, on June 21.
