Rival Coach Claims Ronda Rousey Was Intellectually Inferior To Opponent
The first round kicked off with 28-year-old Rousey throwing wild punches, but around the 20-second mark Holms connected a straight jab to her jaw after circling from the outside.
Following what has been described as “the greatest upset in UFC history”, that saw Ronda Rousey’s winning streak broken by Holly Holm in Melbourne, Holm’s coach has called her opponent’s intellect into question.
Rousey, of course, was a heavy favorite going into the fight, having won her previous three UFC women’s bantamweight championship matches in a combined 64 seconds.
“She had me on the cage for a minute and obviously she was trying in for a take down right there… she had a lot of things she was trying so I’m just glad I put in the practice”, she added.
Following the second round defeat for Rousey, Tate, angling for a title fight with the new champion Holm, wasn’t holding back.
“We figured her aggression was coming, if it didn’t that’s OK, but with footwork and my career we figured she wouldn’t give me that space”, Holm told ABC News.
Check out what Holm had to say about the fight, how she prepared for it, how she achieved her goal, and what she thinks about Rousey deserving an immediate rematch.
The now-former women’s bantamweight champion predicted what would be her downfall during an interview on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last month.
“She was transported (to hospital) because she got knocked out”, UFC chiefs Dana White said. “I couldn’t tell you how many times I cried in the gym leading up to this fight”. According to TMZ, White said that Rousey is “bummed” and “depressed” over the loss and didn’t want to talk about it.
