Rivera: Panthers won’t bring their bat on field before games
The National Football League instituted a one game Odell Beckham suspension on the Giants wide receiver on Monday due to his helmet to helmet hit on another player during the Giants’ 38-35 loss Sunday to the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium.
This new video shows Beckham talking and gesturing at Ball, who walks over to the Giants’ side of the field during stretches. The Panthers claim the bat is nothing new and symbolizes “bringing the wood”, and Norman’s partner in the secondary, Bene Benwikerie, went on a Twitter spree, posting every picture he could find of players carrying bats onto the field during pregame. The Panthers’ defensive backs were also flagged, but Beckham’s actions seemed more excessive, particularly when he rushed across the field to deliver a helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman at the end of a run play in which neither was involved. It was announced that Beckham will serve a one game suspension for many cheap plays against Carolina’s Josh Norman, according to ESPN.
“I will not defend his actions yesterday because they were wrong and this franchise and organization does not tolerate that”, Coughlin said. Everybody wants to sit here and tell us that this happened or this happened. Safe to say, none of the Bills players came onto the field with a bat, like a Panthers did before the game, in order to make Beckham lose control, which he did.
The Giants may be to blame for allowing Odell Beckham Jr.to remain in the game during his tirade against Josh Norman.
“I’ve seen some of the clips but honestly they are benign”, Rivera said. “That disappoints me. If there is something out there that is factual, if there is truth, if there is hard evidence, please present it to us so we can react accordingly”.
As for the allegations that the Panthers directed gay slurs toward Beckham, Rivera shot them down.
Beckham, who was suspended for one game by the league on Monday, will appeal the punishment.
Rivera contended earlier on Tuesday that the Panthers had not broken any rules, but said he was banning the bat to avoid any further controversy.
Ron Rivera has shelved his team’s baseball bat, even though he doesn’t believe his team used it in a threatening manner. He would be barred from team meetings, attending or watching practices; attending Sunday’s game; or having contact with any club personnel except to arrange off-site medical treatment or rehabilitation.
