Rivers: Gov Wike Loses At Appeal Court | Heads To Supreme Court
“Governor Nyesom Wike remains the Governor of Rivers State and the PDP would challenge the decision of the Appeal Court in Supreme Court”, said Rivers PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike with Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikunyi Ibaniye at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Thursday upon his arrival to the state after the Appeal Court judgment.
With the Supreme Court as the terminal point for governorship election petitions, the last may not have been heard of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in rivers state..
The panel of judges ordered a rerun in 90 days.
He vowed to use all constitutional means to protect the mandate they freely bestowed on him, hence his decision to approach the Supreme Court for further adjudication.
The Rivers Tribunal had earlier on October 24 nullified Mr. Wike’s election.
He assured the people of the state that all ongoing projects would continue while his administration would remain focused on securing lives and property across the state.
The governor appealed to his supporters and the people of the state to remain calm, assuring them that justice would prevail.
Wike, who expressed the party’s readiness for the National Assembly elections as ordered by the Appeal Court, warned that the people will resist any attempt by the Federal Government to use soldiers and policemen to manipulate the poll.
Ikanya said: “We give glory to the Almighty God on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon”. Asita, and Rivers people. The Court also stated that the gubernatorial election was marred by violence and that the election was not valid due to widespread irregularities.
Ikanya, however, pointed out that APC would not lose any sleep over what the outcome of a Supreme Court judgement would be, adding that the truth would not change.
