Riverside Police Respond to Multiple Reports of Incident at Tyler Mall
The sound however turned out breaking of glass by three men who entered a jewelry store to rob jewels kept inside a glass display. Riverside police said the suspects used sledgehammers to smash counters and grab items at the Ben Bridge jewelry store.
Thieves broke into a shopping mall not far from the scene of the San Bernardino shooting on Sunday, sparking a massive police response.
“Shooting unfounded”, San Bernardino police Chief Jarrod Burguan said on Twitter.
The incident occurred at 6.30pm as the suspects burst into the store. After they determined the suspects had fled the mall, officers went store to store to ensure that no one inside got hurt and let everybody go.
Many people took to Twitter to report they had heard gunfire, and shoppers and workers panicked and ran from the mall.
Police said the three suspects were all wearing masks.
A helicopter hovering above the mall showed scores of police cruisers parked outside and through a glass roof, several police officers walking through the mall’s cooridors.
It comes days after a husband and wife opened fire on a holiday party in San Bernardino, 17 miles away from the mall, killing 14 and wounding 21 others.
