Road Warriors hold on to extend winning streak to sensational 25
The Raptors were down by eleven, and that’s too much margin to allow a juggernaut like the Warriors.
The Knicks knocked the Nets out early, outscoring the Nets 42-21 in the first quarter on their way to a 108-91 win.
Thunder team-mate Kevin Durant tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds, including the go-ahead jumper with 23 seconds remaining.
Golden State Warriors guard Shaun Livingston (34) and guard Stephen Curry (30) defend against Brooklyn Nets guard Jarrett Jack (2) during the second half at Barclays Center. The mastermind whose lineup and rotation tweaks helped propel Golden State to the 2015 National Basketball Association championship, Kerr would be the first to tell you he’s had minimal influence on the 21-0 record. Young led the Nets with 10 points (shooting 4-for-4) while the Nets shot 77.8% from the field. Down 75-72 with 2:44 left in the third quarter, Walton called a timeout. Steph Curry played a huge part in the Warriors big win, according to ESPN.
Lowry poured in nine of the Raptors’ first 11 points of the third, and a dunk by Nogueira with just under three minutes left in the frame cut the Warriors’ lead to three points. After a missed layup by Thompson, the Nets pushed the ball downcourt and Johnson hit a corner three with two seconds left to send the Nets into the break trailing just 57-54. The fact that the Warriors have been able to taylor its offense to benefit Curry the way it has, is a testament to the coaching prowess of both Steve Kerr and interim HC Luke Walton. “Everywhere we’re going right now”. They went scoreless over a 5-minute span. In the second and third quarters, we were even. (We went) ahead in the third and we didn’t close the quarter very well.
His fellow “Splash Brother” Klay Thompson has seen his role reduced, but is still second on the team in scoring with 17 points per game on 13.7 shot attempts per night.
“We have confidence. When the times get tough we continue to compete and rely on each other”, said forward Green. The Mavericks took the lead early in the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth.
“That’s what great players can do. When he needs to he can and when he doesn’t need to he takes a backseat to those guys”. And to see just a guy that you never know what he’s going to do at any particular moment – when he’s on TV, everybody is glued in because, as soon as he gets a touch with the ball, something special could happen. Great players don’t become great overnight.
“We will rely on our depth as we go into Brooklyn”, Curry said. That performance would have been good enough to beat most teams on most nights. “We feel like we have a lot of room to grow and we think we can be good for a long time”. They fought back. They fell short. Even for those of us who no longer care about a league that tossed the Seattle market into the compost bin seven years ago, the Warriors are hard to dislike and impossible to ignore.
The NBA is easing up a bit today after yesterday’s busy schedule, but we’ve still got five games to look forward to.
Regardless, more significant factors arguably are the fundamental skill of the team itself and, over time, ability of its biggest contributors to avoid any injuries that might sideline them. Fresh off a championship, and now undefeated through a quarter of the regular season, the Warriors seem unwilling even to entertain the thought that they could lose.
