Rob Ryan Tries A Katrina Joke On The NFL Network
Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan spent four hours on the NFL Network pregame set Sunday.
Invoking a natural disaster responsible for more than 1,000 deaths while discussing his performance as a football coach probably even made brother Rex cringe. New Orleans had made a habit of making ordinary offenses look extraordinary, none more so than the Redskins, who lit up the Saints for 47 points last Sunday, a day before his ouster.
The Saints defense is ranked last in the NFL. “I think that’s a little far-fetched”, Ryan said.
However, he spoke highly of New Orleans, saying the city has been “fantastic” to him and his family.
To be fair to Saints fans and the organization itself, the Saints defense is ranked last in the league having allowed the most yards and the most points scored in the NFL.
Ryan even poked fun at the end of his time in New Orleans.
Saints head coach Sean Payton invoked Hurricane Katrina earlier this season as an impetus for the franchise to make the move for Drew Brees and turn the fortunes of the team for the better.
“I think it’s the worst part of the profession”, Ryan said. My daughter’s gonna have to uproot again, and it’s tough. “Believe me, we will show up”.
