Robbery Suspect Shot by Police, Dies in Senior Care Center
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office located and attempted to stop a suspect vehicle in the town of Guadalupe, but it fled from deputies, Pooley said.
Tempe police say an armed robbery suspect is holed up in a senior living center after being shot and wounded by police.
The suspect ran into a storage facility at the nearby Westchester Senior Living facility. Officers were told by employees where the suspect was.
The senior center was evacuated until officer’s deemed the suspect isolated and unable to hurt anyone, according to Pooley.
Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Police are searching for suspects who took part in a crime spree in Phoenix and Tempe overnight.
The suspect was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound and later reported dead.
Police said that the officer involved received only minor injuries.
Pooley says the man who was shot matched the description of the robbery suspect, who was after pharmaceuticals.
Police are working to get better suspect descriptions, and at this time only describe the auto as a dark-colored Nissan Altima or Maxima.
He got away with six or seven 16-ounce bottles of a liquid narcotic.
Tempe police didn’t immediately release the man’s name Wednesday.
Aerial video showed several police vehicles and officers in body armor responding to the situation.
Rural Road at Westchester has reopened to traffic.
