Robbie Gould joins Giants in London, replaces Josh Brown
Robbie Gould, new placekicker for the New York Giants, isn’t anxious about the fact that he just met his new teammates or that he isn’t sure who will be long-snapping Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. “I viewed myself as God basically and she was my slave”.
Speaking Monday on WEEI’s “Kirk & Callahan”, the Patriots quarterback spoke out against violence against women, a topic that unfortunately has returned to the National Football League news cycle following recent developments in the Josh Brown situation.
“He admitted to us he’d abused his wife in the past”, he said, via The MMQB’s Albert Breer. In that case he would still be able to collect on a $1.15 million sum of his salary for this season.
While Brown is on the exempt list, players like Ray Rice, and Greg Hardy were given unpaid suspensions.
Brown has since been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. Brown is not allowed to attend practices or games.
Goodell continued to throw the blame for the weak initial response to Brown’s May 22, 2015 physical assault on Molly to the league’s inability to get the type of documents that were released on Wednesday. While they are painting their stadiums and players pink for breast cancer awareness in October, they should be more concerned about the players abusing their spouses.
There are obviously huge differences between the touchdown celebrations and domestic violence, on a punishment level.
This comes at a time when players and fans already were growing exhausted of the penalties and fines being assessed for touchdown celebrations and Torrey Smith, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, went public with his displeasure on Twitter. League officials dispute that notion strongly, and an NFL source was adamant that Goodell had no discussions with Giants officials about Brown’s investigation while it was ongoing. I will let them handle it.
In February of 2014, a video of Ray Rice, former Baltimore Ravens running back, was released showing him dragging his unconscious now wife, who was then his girlfriend, out of an elevator.
Ray Rice, at a June, 2014 interview with the league, was completely forthcoming about the altercation with his then-fiancée Janay in an Atlantic City elevator the previous February. The video of Rice dragging his unconscious then girlfriend out of the elevator surfaced February 19, 2014. He believes the league’s statement Thursday was likely the work of the NFL’s public relations arm, which didn’t know any better.
The team’s front office met to talk about Brown, and McAdoo said that he would probably join those talks either later in the evening or on Tuesday morning. But that’s a lie. The league investigated. Despite charges later being dropped (she got a divorce instead of testifying), Brown admitted the Giants and NFL that he did hit her (he said it was only once).
Molly said Josh showed up drunk at her hotel room during the 2016 Pro Bowl week and was pounding on her door to get in the room. That is considered harassment. What makes this even more revolting is that they made the decision to sign Brown to a two-year contract extension later that spring with more than plenty of free agent kickers looking for jobs.
In one of Brown’s journal entries obtained as part of the investigation, he wrote, “I have abused my wife”.
