Robbie Lawler retained his UFC welterweight title against Carlos Condit
They were the two points that decided the fight.
The UFC welterweight champion looks to defend his title once again on Saturday, Jan. 2, as one of the biggest events at UFC 195, which is set to take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and number one contender Carlos Condit absolutely stole the show, with both men displaying what it takes to be a champion.
Condit has been in preparation for Lawler for longer than his normal training camp after the champion suffered a thumb injury that forced him to delay the fight from the originally scheduled date at UFC 193 in November.
With 5 grueling rounds of fighting, both fighters were giving it all in what was dubbed as one of the best fights in the UFC. Little could they know, however, what was swirling through the 31-year-old challenger’s mind.
Carlos Condit had his mind made up going into his UFC 195 welterweight title fight: It was all or nothing.
“It was close though”, Condit said. He said the decision to consider retirement isn’t one that is emotional or that came in the wake of a bitter defeat.
In the Philippines, the UFC has a new home in Cignal TV, the country’s foremost direct-to-home company, after the two groups agreed to an extensive three-year deal that will see the UFC beamed on various platforms.
“Come on, give me shot”. I don’t know. I feel like tonight was kind of a do-or-die moment for my career and I was all in. I was all in. He’s tough. I landed some big shots. Everyone else is doing great things, but so am I, and this sport is going to continue to grow. After getting back to his feet, Lawler continued to pursue Condit and the two traded blows through the end of the round.
Following last night’s UFC 195 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
“Yeah, it was what I thought it was”, he said.
After the fight, Miocic (14-2) called out UFC president Dana White to give him a title shot against the victor between the Fabricio Werdum-Cain Velasquez heavyweight title clash in February. You want to go out there and you want to be sharp and you want to execute your game plan and go out there and get it done fast. There were two winners tonight, and still. He clearly earned Lawler’s never-ending respect. Not just fireworks. Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit will also be bringing in the new year with a bang. But in terms of his next opponent, a bout versus second-ranked Woodley would make the most sense for a champion who’s suddenly running low on legitimate challengers.
“It was awesome, man”, White said. It’s not a position unfamiliar to Condit, who has been the underdog in several fights in the past but he’s never been afraid to defy the odds.
He had put everything he had into a fight that may go down as the year’s best, even though it was only the year’s second day.
