Roberto Aguayo seeks out mental coach after missed kicks in preseason
During the 2016 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up in the second-round to take Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo. “So you’ve got to have times like this when you struggle a little bit at a time when everything else is good”. So even the best extra point kicker in the world still won’t help that much. It’s still far too early to make any proclamations, but I do feel safe saying this: Every time Aguayo screws up, the fact that he was picked in the second round will be brought up. “It’s all forced. And by talking to my mental coach and all that, it just reminded me to just sit back, relax and let it go”.
Roberto Aguayo can’t imagine feeling any more pressure than he already puts on himself. I miss at practice sometimes.
“It shouldn’t happen with me”, Aguayo said after the game.
Aguayo has missed two field-goal attempts and an extra-point try in Tampa Bay’s first two preseason games.
After Aguayo missed several kicks, coach Dirk Koetter described Aguayo’s struggles as “mental”.
“I wouldn’t call that a slow start”, Koetter said, via JoeBucsFan.com. Furthermore, it has only bolstered the opinion of the many who contend taking a kicker in the second round is ridiculous.
“With me not struggling right away with injuries, not living up to expectations, who better to go talk to him?” said McCoy, who tore the biceps in both arms his first two seasons and ended up on IR. They used a second round draft pick on a kicker. “He was drafted high as a kicker, so a lot of expectations come with that with being the guy”. He also flopped Tuesday during a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns, missing three of six field-goal attempts, according to ESPN.
There are precedents for that, scattered among the forgotten names of kickers drafted in high rounds. On the 28-yard field goal, Schum was the holder. “Everybody knows it. So, I mean, it is what it is”. There’s definitely pressure on him. Fans taunting him won’t help a speedy recovery.
