Roberto Martinez: Everton boss feels ‘pure anger’ at Terry goal
The Blues skipper has revealed he is keen to end his trophy-laden career with the west London club, where he has become a fan favourite over the years.
Chelsea captain John Terry insists he feels as strong as ever as he hopes to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge. I’ve never had legs, it’s as simple as that. “I’m still in the right state of mind, I’m still hungry, I want to be here, I want to finish my career here”.
When asked if he was offside in his immediate post-match interview, Terry replied: “I’m not sure and I don’t really care”.
“I was thinking maybe four, five minutes, ‘ Terry told Chelsea TV”.
It took a while – half the season – but Cesc Fabregas is starting to find his form and he is looking the player he was past year. It was offside. So for me it was a performance that shows how far we’ve come.
For Everton’s first, Romelo Lukaku laid the pass to Leighton Baines whose cross from the left was turned into the net by Terry.
Substitute Ramiro Funes Mori looked to have won the game for Martinez’s side when he scored in the 90th minute, but there was still time for Terry to restore parity.
“If I am asked, I will give my honest opinion about that”, Hiddink said.
Terry’s own goal and a Kevin Mirallas strike put Everton 2-0 up, but Chelsea scored twice in quick succession to restore parity.
“Oscar touched the ball and, half a yard, John was offside even though he made a handsome goal”. I hope it’s not bad. They suffered another blow on Saturday when Costa sustained a shin injury that resulted in him going to hospital for a precautionary scan.
“That’s why it’s such a hard game to analyse because there’s an aspect which is the game – I thought it was a terrific football game, once we got two-goal lead I would have wanted to control the game a bit better, but with the quality Chelsea have they are always capable of getting back into scoring positions”.
“It’s a clear-cut offside that should have been spotted”, said Martinez, who was presiding over his 250th Premier League game as a manager. We should have played 97 and then we concede a goal that shouldn’t have been given.
“To keep that little momentum, ideally we needed three points, we’re not happy where we are in the league, we need to start winning games but every game’s tough and every opposition seems to be stepping up their game”.
