Roberto Martinez: Inspirational Leicester can achieve anything this season
Everton will have John Stones fit to face Leicester on Saturday and Roberto Martinez might also be able to call on James McCarthy.
Leicester top the table by two points after Monday’s victory over Chelsea and are a full 12 points clear of Martinez’s 10th-placed team.
“Not because it was Chelsea but because it was three points and we continue to stay top of the league and it is important for us to get 40 points – after we do that I will tell you what else we can do”.
Many believe Leicester will eventually fall away, but Martinez believes they have a chance of winning the league.
It is not unusual for a less-fancied side to be among the big hitters at the start of a season but, with Leicester showing no signs of slipping off the pace heading into Christmas, this is developing into a very different story.
“I’ve seen a real change”.
Stones has drawn plaudits from some of the best in world, with Gerard Pique has recently naming the ex-Barnsley man as one of the top young players in his position.
” It’s been a very frustrating time but I feel we can see the light at the end of the tunnel”. They go out knowing they’re going to win the football game, and I think when you develop that momentum, it can be very powerful. “When you are right in the middle of the season I think players understand you can’t sell someone if you can’t replace him”, the Spaniard said.
Ranieri, who took over from Nigel Pearson in the close season, has lost just once in the league so far, against Arsenal on September 26, and Martinez said the Italian was the ideal choice for Leicester. “He twisted his ankle in the warm-up at Norwich and then got a knock to his knee, but he’s had no effect from that – he’s in ideal condition for the weekend”.
