Robinson Cano injury: Day-to-day with abdominal strain
Cano was out of the lineup Wednesday as he underwent an MRI for the abdominal issue.
The Grade 1 strain will keep Cano out for a game or two, and he then should serve as the team’s designated hitter for a few days before returning to the field, McClendon said, reported by The Seattle Times. He said Cano should resume playing second base in five or six days. “Right now he’s considered day-to-day”.
“Robbie is stubborn”, McClendon added, as mentioned by 710 ESPN Seattle. He continued to play, including Tuesday night’s game. “He played OK. It hurts more when he runs than a swing, but we just can’t take a chance on anything – damaging anything – so the smart thing to do is back off, take the X-rays and MRI and make sure everything’s fine”.
It comes at a time when Cano finally is hot at the plate. Brad Miller started at second base in Cano’s absence on Wednesday.
Mariners first baseman Logan Morrison left Wednesday’s game in the seventh inning because of a swollen thumb.
– Reliever Charlie Furbush threw a bullpen sessoin yesterday that McClendon said “felt good”, and he plans to travel to Minnesota.
Morrison has been struggling: He is hitting.
“It all depends on Paxton coming in and saying, ‘I don’t feel it anymore, ‘ ” McClendon said.
Over the last 30 days, Cano is hitting.324/.384/.598 with seven home runs for a wRC+ of 174. Right now he needs the support of the tape.
