Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2016 List of Inductees Announced
Singer Steve Miller, who crosses multiple genres from blues to pop, 1970s rock band Cheap Trick and rappers NWA will round out the five 2016 inductees, which were chosen by fans and more than 800 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame made the big revelation about its latest class on its official website, and this year, classic rock ruled supreme, represented by Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and Miller.
This is N.W.A.’s third try to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and this year they were successful.
Both Miller and Cheap Trick made it after their first year on the ballot. Others who were nominated this year but didn’t make the cut include Janet Jackson, Nine Inch Nails and The Smiths. “I was prepared to not get it and say, ‘Oh, well, better luck next time.’ When I was with Dave Clark, he told me all about what happened with him and how Tom Hanks inducted them“.

Eight of the individual members of Deep Purple have already been inducted int the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, namely, David Coverdale, Ian Paice, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Glenn Hughes, and Roger Glover.
Borchetta says of Cheap Trick, “As a band, they’ve never stopped rock’n the free world and they play every night with as much conviction as their first power-pop-punk club shows from the mid ’70’s”. I don’t need to tell anyone certain key members and former members of this band do not get on. I have always done what I love to do, so to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is unreal. The ceremony rotates on a three-year cycle between the Hall of Fame’s physical home in Cleveland and venues in NY and Los Angeles. That ballot was comprised of Chicago, Yes, the Cars, Deep Purple and Steve Miller.
“I don’t know [laughs]”. The induction ceremony will be held on April 8 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center with HBO televising the event later that spring.
With their visceral social commentary and dedication to rule-breaking, it’s easy to see why N.W.A have found a home amongst Rock & Roll greats.
