Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Revealed – Including NWA, Deep

This band is best known for it’s infamous guitar lick on “Smoke on the Water”.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame reportedly dismissed a large number of their voters and this year, and tried to include more women and younger voters in the process of determining who the inductees should be.

Both Miller and Cheap Trick made it during their first year on the ballot. From media pariahs to pop-culture darlings, the team of California rappers will finally see their placement in history cemented when they’re inducted into the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“It’s everything that kind of eluded us in a lot of ways when we were coming up”, N.W.A.’s Ice Cube told Rolling Stone, speaking about the honor. Chicago, for instance, became eligible for induction in 1994 – under the Hall’s requirement that 25 years have elapsed since the release of an act’s first recording – but made the nomination list for the first time this year.

This year’s inductees will be celebrated at the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 8 at New York City’s Barclays Center.

Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, Chic, and the Smiths were among the acts that didn’t make the cut this year.

A statement from the organisers said: “Deep Purple’s non-inclusion in the Hall is a gaping hole which must now be filled”, calling them “the Holy Trinity of hard rock and metal bands” along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath who are already inductees. They are only one of six hip-hop groups or artists who have been inducted. Paice asked in an interview with England’s Classic Rock magazine. “I think that the body of work, even just considering the work we did on the first album and beyond, changed the face of pop music for us to be considered influential”. You also have to bear in mind, that if some people are inducted together, it could end in a punch-up.

Also, gangsta rap is apparently rock n’ roll now. “I never thought the type of music we were making would receive such a high accolade”. “Nothing. Having these artists in before Deep Purple undermines what it is supposed to represent”.
