Rocket fired from Syria hurts 6 in Turkey
A missile fired by ISIS forces in Syria hit a crowded area of the town of Kilis in southern Turkey on Thursday afternoon. He said six people, a lot of them children, were injured in the initial barrage.
Operation Euphrates Shield, which led to the liberation of the city, began when Turkish tank units backed by jets crossed the border into Syria on August 24 in support of the Free Syrian Army. “We want to establish security”, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told reporters in Ankara.
The first rocket hit a market area in the centre of the Turkish border town of Kilis, shattering windows and causing panic.
“We have six injured and five of them are in good health”, said the governor of Kilis province, Ismail Catakli, in a statement, according to the Turkish Anadolu news agency.
More than 20,000 Syrians have returned to the Syrian border town of Jarablus almost a month after it was taken from the DAESH terrorist organisation, an official has said. Kilis is home to a large population of Syrian refugees who fled the civil war into neighboring Turkey.
Dozens were killed in the town earlier this year as it came under regular attack from ISIS rockets.
Turkey considers Kurdish YPG forces fighting in Syria as closely linked to Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants, and deems both groups terrorist organizations.
However, the land under control of the rebels is a narrow wedge and Islamic State has a presence further south.
Turkey has long argued for a “safe zone” or “no-fly” zone along its Syrian border, with the aim of clearing out Islamic State and Kurdish fighters and stemming a wave of migration.
