Rockets Fall To The Winless Nets At Home
The biggest contributor to the Rockets success this past week was Harden. Clint Capela led the way off the Rockets bench with eight points, as their second unit combined for only 15 points. Moving forward, the Rockets have shown that they have the potential to have another special year if the team can play well together.
The Rockets shot just 2-for-13 from three in the first half, but scored 34 points on 5-of-9 from three in the third quarter.
These stats continued what has been a worrisome trend for the Rockets so far this season. In their loss to the Nets, it was making shots, or not making them, that was the difference. Harden, who was averaging 12.7 free throw attempts per game coming into tonight. Not to say it couldn’t happen down the road but for now they have a winning formula in Harden. Last week, the team won by totals of four, five, and a pair of six point victories. He’s shooting 24.7 percent from long distance this season but is up to 40.0 over his last three. High-scoring Houston failed to reach 100 points for the fourth time this season and the Rockets have lost each of those games. Harden’s best stat line from the week was against the kings where he added 6 rebounds, 13 assists and two steals. If the Nets can keep up this shooting, they will win a whole lot more games.
Marcus Thornton caught fire in the second.
Thaddeus Young had a great game for the Nets as he secured a double double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but that was clearly not enough during the game. He has been a solid help to the hometown favorite Harden.
“Just not being as aggressive as I should be”, Larkin said.
The Rockets entered this season knowing that the health of Howard would need to be closely monitored. Thornton has also provided an offensive consistency that the Rockets lacked last season. However, the way the Rockets defense didn’t make it hard on the Nets in the fourth and how simple and selfish the offense became in the fourth quarter tells us something about this team, going by this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this sort of performance from them.
Now when Rockets star Center Howard is not playing, Houston’s backup Center, Clint Capela, has thrived in his few starts early on in the season. Cory Joseph notched 15 points, DeMar DeRozan had 14 and Jonas Valanciunas contributed 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Raptors, who snapped a three-game losing streak. This figure is indicative of his Capela’s ability to finish at the basket. You roll over on the big bucks, noting that this veteran team is in “win now” mode, and look to deal your way back toward respectability by acquiring more veteran players. Those two games are against Portland, who could fall back to the level expected of them at the beginning of this season, and the Detroit Pistons.
The Rockets’ bid for their fifth straight win fell short as they fell to the winless Brooklyn Nets, 106-98.
There are infinite ways to look at a basketball game.
The Nets scored nine consecutive points, capped by a 3-pointer by Wayne Ellington, to take a 91-87 lead with 6 1/2 minutes remaining.
