Rockets guard Lawson suspended two games
Lawson has seen his minutes cut in Houston, and he is no longer counted on to be a scorer in an offense that runs through James Harden.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the National Basketball Association is set to suspend Lawson for two games.
Lawson could also be suspended by the league for another arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated that occurred in Los Angeles in July.
But either way, it is clear that the Rockets are realizing they’ve made a mistake by trading for Lawson and are hoping to remedy the solution sooner rather than later in the season.
Lawson pleaded guilty last month to driving while impaired stemming from a January arrest in Colorado.
The Houston Chronicle reported Friday that the Rockets were trying to trade Lawson, but that no deal was imminent. In six seasons with the Nuggets, the point guard averaged 14.2 points and 6.5 assists per game. Following that arrest, a Denver judge ordered Lawson to spend 30 days in an alcohol rehab facility.
According to ESPN.com, Lawson’s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, said a stay at the Cliffside Malibu rehabilitation center would “ensure his sobriety”. Since arriving in Houston this summer, Lawson has met his requirements off the floor and has had no new incidents.
Houston sent Denver four players and two draft picks for Lawson. As such, Lawson has watched in points per game drop to a career-low 5.9 points while contributing just 4.2 assists per night.
