Rockets retain Brewer, Beverley – 07-03
Beverley’s agreement, meanwhile, is for four years and $23 million, his agent said, according to The Associated Press.
Upon signing with the Rockets, Beverley spoke with Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders and he said that he is excited to be back with the Rockets.
The Houston Rockets have reportedly locked up sixth-man, Corey Brewer, for three-years and $24 million.
The contract includes a non-guaranteed fourth year, that if exercised would pay Beverley an additional $5 million. “I think if we can keep our group together and stay healthy, we can win it all”, Brewer told ESPN.com.
“This is the only team in the league-I am very loyal-only team in the league that really took a chance on me”, Beverley said per Feigen.
Beverley gives the Rockets a tenacious defender at point guard who was sorely missed when he went down with a wrist injury.
Despite that small salary, Beverley worked his way into the Rockets’ rotation over the past few years, eventually taking over as starter with the departure of Jeremy Lin. Last season, Beverley averaged 10 points, four rebounds and over three assists in 31 minutes per game. He’s also a career 36 percent three-point shooter. His biggest impact came in the Western Conference playoffs when his energy and lock-down defense was key in the Rockets’ surge to the Western Conference finals, where the team was eventually ousted by the NBA-champion, Golden State Warriors.
With Beverley and Brewer secured, the Rockets can turn their attention to the LaMarcus Aldridge sweepstakes.
“In order to make an Aldridge deal happen, the Rockets would have to do a sign-and-trade with another team”. Both contracts can not be signed until July 9.
