Rodgers, Packers agree to record-breaking extension
Rodgers is set to receive over $100 million in guaranteed money, the highest guaranteed total in history.
“If something does get done, it’s fantastic”.
Rodgers won the Super Bowl with the Packers in 2011.
The extension means Rodgers will make between $176 and $180 million over the lifetime of his deal. The fans in those 7000 extra seats will get to watch Rodgers play until he hits 40. He’s now 34. A four-year extension to his current two-year deal would put him there. Over the course of his starting career, Rodgers has thrown 312 touchdowns to 77 interceptions.
Rodgers has sustained two major injuries in the past five seasons – a broken left clavicle in 2013 and a broken right clavicle last season.
Green Bay will open up the 2018-19 season at home against the division rival Chicago Bears in a nationally televised game on Sunday, September 9.
After spending almost the entire offseason trying to negotiate a new contract, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers finally agreed to a new deal on Wednesday.
Asked why he’d take such a risk, Rodgers replied, “I know how fortunate I am”. Then, he paused. “It’s a tough question”.
“But I’m really not too anxious about it … like I said, there’s more than mutual interest on both sides”. Quarterback contracts have been creeping up over the years. I invested money with a former friend of mine who I thought I could trust and who I greatly admired. You know? This is a partnership. “It gave us the ability to do some things and made my camp number never go above an unmanageable level”.
Rodgers had fallen behind in the ever-escalating world of National Football League salaries since then, making him a relative bargain.
