Roger Goodell: National Football League ruling on Tom Brady appeal, Deflategate coming
Golden’s colleague, Julia Boorstin, reported on Thursday morning that Goodell will announce his ruling on Tom Brady’s hearing “soon”.
It has been a little over two weeks since Roger Goodell served as judge and jury during Tom Brady’s appeal of his suspension stemming from the NFL’s investigation into Deflategate. And while the Patriots decided to take their loss of draft picks and record $1 million fine on the chin, Brady elected to fight his suspension through appeal. So a decision might not exactly offer the finality we’re looking for.
Brady was suspended by the league for his role in the use of deflated footballs in the AFC championship game win over Indianapolis.
“Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback that I had been watching on TV since middle school actually introduced himself to me”, he writes, according to The Boston Herald. In 2002 the Patriots finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs but finished in a three-way tie for first place losing out on the playoffs exclusively on tiebreakers.
When Goodell’s ruling comes down it does not necessarily mean that the appeal process will be over. However, Goodell has a history of being stubborn in regards to punishments handed down, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him try to stand by this one. Goodell told CNBC he and Kraft were not discussing Deflategate.
