Roger Goodell: San Diego unlikely to present plan to keep Chargers
While no substantial plan has been put forth to keep the Raiders in Oakland, officials in St. Louis and the state of Missouri are trying to keep the Rams from leaving.
National Football League club owners met Wednesday to consider relocation bids to Los Angeles by the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers as well as hear from their current cities.
There’s been a lot of clamoring for an NFL team (or two) to make the move to Los Angeles, tapping into America’s second-biggest market and giving the league another vast revenue stream. Other reports said the owners could firm up plans for a special meeting next month in Houston, where a vote on relocation could be taken. He’s now willing to offer an equity stake in his proposed stadium to a second team. “But I do think there is logic in putting pressure on the existing cities to give them everything they have”.
Mara and Hunt are both members of the NFL’s L.A. committee, which is reviewing competing stadium plans for the city and could make a recommendation to the full ownership soon. Kroenke would control the design of the stadium as well as the revenue from the development surrounding the stadium. “I know we are way behind”. The NFL’s owners could take a significant step toward the league’s return to Los Angeles this week.
The L.A. committee has not made a recommendation between the Inglewood and Carson proposals, but Goodell said it intends to. “The ownership has expressed their desire to get this done in a reasonable amount of time”.
He has asked the competition committee to look into clarifying and simplifying the rules, as well as how the league trains officials.
