Rolling Stones Plan New Studio Album
The 71-year-old rocker is always disappointed by his Rolling Stones bandmate’s work away from the group and thinks he should just stick with being their frontman.
Fresh from its premiere at the Toronto international Film Festival and presently streaming on Netflix, KEITH RICHARDS: Under the influence is a feature-length film that follows the legendary Rolling Stones’ guitarist as he records his first solo album in over two decades.
Richards, 71, said both the film and making the album, gave him a new appreciation of his influences, including less obvious ones such as the role of his music-loving mother. So I threw out that statement, it was only once that I said it, just to see the reaction it got, really just to punch the Stones in the back of the head.
Richards said when the band first went to the US, they found it “astounding” blues was not better known. “You keep thinking ‘Come on, how long can you keep this thing going?’ But I guess the answer is until we don’t feel that we’re improving”, he said. Funnily enough, within a few months, the Stones want to get back on the road again!
In the very beginning of the trailer, Richard’s jokes, “I know who I am, but I realize that people think that Keith Richards is smoking a joint, bottle in his hand cursing the fact that the liquor store is closed”. But you never know. We might try to get into the studio before Christmas.
He added: “If we stood here all night I could reel off a list, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Ray Charles. But at the same time, it’s definitely in the works”.
