Rolling with the Crimson Tide in Alabama
A 4th-and-1 attempt is stuffed, but it’s no matter.
Alabama is trying to become the first team to repeat as SEC champion since Tennessee in 1997-98. There were some wide open receivers missed repeatedly.
The 24th Southeastern Conference football championship pits a surprise victor from the Eastern Division and a Western champ wanting so much more. They block out the noise. Since then, they have outscored opponents 305-102 during their nine-game streak.
What this event showed me was the power of Twitter and how you can take it to grow in a different way. The dynasty was over.
It was the most carries by a running back in Crimson Tide history (Johnny Musso had 42 against Auburn in 1970). When all else fails, the defense has been there. His final field goal was a 47-yard effort in the fourth quarter, giving him the school record against the Tigers.
“It’s a huge challenge”, Florida first-year coach Jim McElwain said Sunday afternoon. And Florida’s offense just doesn’t seem capable of scoring those kinds of points anytime soon.
“It certainly made us bear down and continue to compete, because we knew this was going to be a 60-minute game”, Saban said. “I can’t tell you how proud of the way our players responded”.
“As soon as it happened I was thinking about (the catch against Georgia in 2013)”, Louis said.
Saban was blunt in diagnosing this squad: “Our workhorse is a running back”.
Offensively, Auburn did some good things with counter plays early, allowing the team to grind out a few yards on the ground. We’ve had some really good running backs here, first- and second-round draft picks, guys that are playing well in the NFL.
Alabama’s win also didn’t come without a fight against Auburn (6-6, 2-6), which was aided by Jason Smith’s 77-yard TD catch in the third quarter, in which he twice tipped the ball to himself. But even his role is a departure from years past. The longest tenure of a coach in that grouping was 15 years (Richt), with the shortest being two years (USC’s Steve Sarkisian).
The Tigers senior linebacker hit Alabama quarterback Jake Coker right at the out of bounds line. There was a ripple effect, as Coker struggled in the face of pressure and threw seven interceptions during that time.
I will be tuning in on the radio via in the internet and watching it on Twitter to see how Alabama do it this important game.
“He has a better understanding of the offense and has grown in that area”, Saban said.
Instead, the defense and special teams have had to pick up the slack.
In fact, it has given up more than 23 points just once this season, which came in a 43-37 loss to Ole Miss. That makes 1,797 yards (#1 in the country) on the season, to go with his Alabama record 22 touchdowns (also #1 in the country).
Alabama Crimson Tide is made up of 21 men and women varsity teams which represent The University of Alabama.
“As far a bragging rights, we’re used to beating up on Auburn”, says Alabama fan Dennis Montgomery. They just keep rolling them through there.
Auburn couldn’t muster more than 100 yards rushing in the game either and went either three-and-out or four-and-out six times in the game. “Henry’s ability to get to and through the hole in a flash projects best in a traditional power-blocking scheme that limits his dancing at the line of scrimmage”, Rang wrote.
