Rolls-Royce announces recall for one auto
Rolls-Royce is recalling… one example of the Ghost. Unlike most recalls, the campaign does not include a chronology report in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database. That being said, RR is now quite possibly the record holder for the smallest recall ever as they have announced just one unit will be recalled, a 2015 model year Ghost manufactured on January 23, 2014.
A Rolls-Royce spokesman said that the issue “was due to the incorrect labelling on one of the airbags”, but given the scale of the recall it’s unlikely this one will drag on for that long.
All of which seems a lot of costly faffing around, but regulations are regulations – even if it means jumping through legal hoops to fix a single auto that hadn’t even reached its owner.
Rolls Royce stated the thorax airbags may not provide the desired level of protection in the event of an impact from the sides, thereby making the front passenger as well as the driver vulnerable to injuries. As a effect, the 2015 Ghost could fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214 concerning the “Side Impact Protection”.
Given the recall began in late October, we expect Rolls-Royce will have already contacted the unlucky owner and the problematic air bag modules will have been replaced free of charge.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost has a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
