Romo riddle lingers for Cowboys after solid Prescott debut
I can not recall any passing game that went down the field, most passes were check downs to Tight-end Jason Witten or a running back circle out of the backfield. Oh, and a defense that never seemed to get a big stop during a 4-12 season a year ago failed again in the fourth quarter. “We just have to score touchdowns down there in the red zone”. “We’ll start seeing him making guys miss, start moving around and being that agile guy we’re used to seeing”, Manning said. They had struggled big time without their main man, since 2007 they have won only ten games and lost 24 games when Romo wasn’t on the field. He missed the first eight games of last season after injuring his right hand in a fireworks accident.
Even more disappointing is that he had just five passes thrown his way. It was just like a “bang bang” moment.
“We’ll get better”, he said. The Giants found a way to win in Dallas to get the Ben McAdoo era started off right. He was targeted five times overall, less than tight end Jason Witten and wide receiver Cole Beasley, but quarterback Dak Prescott said Wednesday that there shouldn’t be any panic about Bryant’s role in the offense. “You still have to be able to function and make the plays that are there”. The touchdowns to Cruz and Shepard were a welcoming sight for Giants fans especially for Cruz who for the first time in over 2 years saw him with a touchdown reception and a salsa dance to go along with it. And now he’s finally back out here. “So I can only imagine what it feels like for him”.
Cruz’s first catch was a simple 5-yarder just before the 2-minute warning in the first half, then he had a 23-yarder on the same drive to put the Giants in position for rookie Sterling Shepard’s first touchdown to put NY up 13-9 at halftime.
“He has so much experience finding windows, finding lanes”, Manning said. “That’s pretty special for him to get the game-winning touchdown on this day”. Manning’s throw was beyond the reach of diving linebacker Justin Durant.
The defense has question marks: Aside from the Brandon Carr interception, which was the only turnover of the game for either team, the Cowboys defense seemed, well, average. The coaches did a good job.
Dennis Allen has taken over as New Orleans’ defensive coordinator and he is using a lot more multiple fronts. It happened on the 15th anniversary of 9/11, and Cruz’s father was a firefighter who helped at ground zero for days after the terrorist attacks.
“A little bit, absolutely”, Cruz told the Daily News. It was by far the loudest crowd I have ever heard at a Cowboy game either here, or at the old Texas Stadium in Irving or the Cotton Bowl in Dallas where the Cowboys began playing in 1960.
Now Cruz has another memory to go with it.
