Ronaldo shines as Real thrash Malmo 8-0 in CL
Within just 48 hours of that interview, Ronaldo now says he is keeping his options open for the future.
Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo broke his own record for the number of goals scored in a Champions League group stage by netting his 10th in the game with Malmo on Tuesday.
Ronaldo, 30, is contracted to the Bernabeu until 2018 but there has been intense speculation over the last month he could leave the club in the summer. “But that is not 100% guaranteed”.
“I’ve been below my level”, said Ronaldo [via Eurosport].
“Everything is open, all leagues”, the versatile forward continued.
Ronaldo also quashed rumors that he was unhappy working with new Real Madrid coach, Rafael Benitez, and said he had not ruled out being named as the victor of the Balon D’Or award for a third consecutive years despite being well behind Barca duo of Leo Messi and Neymar in the betting.
“I play for the people I love”. But I feel comfortable because most of the time I play my position, so for me it is not going to be a big deal.
“You have to take into account that I have had some personal problems. But I have no idea”.
After one of Ronaldo’s goals, Real Madrid players ran to the bench and embraced Denis Cheryshev, whose appearance in the Copa del Rey game last week prompted the team’s disqualification from the competition because he was carrying a one-game suspension for accumulation of yellow cards. I have already said goodbye to my players and now I’m going home.
“It is normal to be criticised, at a club like Real Madrid, when things don’t go well”.
Ronaldo’s total of 11 is the same as Madrid’s city rivals Atletico have managed in their entire campaign, despite winning Group C, and more than eliminated Manchester United could muster under Louis van Gaal. “I may end my career here with Real Madrid”. I think he is doing things the right way. “It’s part of my job”, he continued.
After Madrid’s 1-0 win at home to the French champions, Ronaldo was captured embracing both PSG coach Laurent Blanc and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, but he insists he is happy in the Spanish capital.
“As a football professional, this is always an unknown, so I prefer to stay in the present”, he added. This one is about votes, so it’s harder.
