Ronda Rousey has been most drug tested UFC fighter so far
And again. Eye applying a lot of pressure here in this clinch.
An immediate takedown by Pena set the tone for the 3rd round. They stand, and Pena drives Eye into the fence.
The opening bout of UFC 192 was an important matchup between top 10 ranked Jessica Eye and TUF 18 victor Julianna Pena. She waits then lands another to the side of the head. It took her more than a year to return, coming back in April with a decisive knockout win.
Eye moving around and lands a couple of jabs. Pena pulled guard early but Eye didn’t engage in anything serious. She lands a few elbows to the body.
Should Pena get the next title shot following Holm?
But at 26, Pena may feel like she’s in this for the long haul. Pena defending for now with less than two minutes remaining in the round.
A minute to go and Pena scrambles to her knees. Now Pena takes Eye down, and she’s immediately into side control.
That forces a stoppage, Eye ends up getting a point deducted which has big repercussions for this fight if it goes to a decision and for a few reason they now get restarted on the feet. As Eye rolled for another submission, Pena gained top control.
Julianna Pena, who trains in north Spokane, hopes Saturday’s fight in Houston leads to the ultimate opportunity. She locked on a rear-naked choke that had Eye’s face almost turning purple. Eye is super tough and won’t tap, managing to move enough to escape. Last warning. Pena trying to posture up, but Pena is passing the guard here. Still, Pena in her half-guard, and she traps Eye’s right arm with her knee to land a left hand.
Still, this is a major victory for Pena, and the future is beyond bright for her. If she continues to improve and continues to add names to her resume, it is only a matter of time before she gets a title fight. It looks like Pena has her arm under Eye’s neck, squeezing for a one-armed guillotine…can’t get it. Eye perseveres, but it should be a decision for Pena.
