Ronda Rousey on rematch: ‘I have to (expletive) do it’
Ronda Rousey is planning to make a comeback by beating Holly Holm, a feat nearly every commentator once assumed she could accomplish. So when it came time to fight, Rousey wasn’t herself. Her new goal is to get back in the cage and beat Holm – or as she refers to her as, “this chick”. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth or break my jaw or rip my lip open. And while she’s been holed up in her Venice, Calif., townhouse and is “just really (expletive) sad”, there’s no way she’ll spend the rest of her career that way. She says it might be three to six months before she can eat an apple, let alone take a punch.
In fact, Rousey, 28, said from the beginning of the fight, she knew she was done. I had that huge cut in my mouth and I just spit [the blood] out at my feet. “I have to f-ing do it”.
The 24-year-old Souza (8-0) made her debut for the organization at Invicta FC 12 in April, unseating former champion Katja Kankaanpaa with a fourth-round submission to capture Invicta FC gold. “I used a whole roll of toilet paper in one day”.
Rousey blames the loss on her not thinking clearly. “I’ve turned off my phone”, she says. “And it’s still a fight I’d like to see, whether it’s Ronda or Holly or whoever it is”.
While Holm just enjoyed a parade held in her honor in her hometown of Albuquerque, Rousey struggled with getting out of bed, letting the light in through the blinds, taking a shower, venturing outside. “But I still think that there’s a desire there at some point”. I wasn’t even f*cking there. “Of course. What else am I going to f–king do?” The reason behind the change comes after Justino decided against dropping to bantamweight after the USADA IV ban passed and a bout against former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is on indefinite hold. “That’s my mom’s opinion, not mine”. After saying a cut to 135 pounds could be seriously damaging to her health, she started planning fights at 140 pounds but always cancelled them due to injury.
