Ronda Rousey posts message thanking fans for support, says ‘I’ll be back’
American Holly Holm tamed the world’s most feared female prizefighter Ronda Rousey with a stunning knockout victory for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight title in Australia on Sunday.
However, despite heading immediately to hospital amidst rumors that she may have broken her jaw, it turns out Rousey only required stitches to a split lip.
“I Just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support”, she began. “I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine”. However, the true qualities of a champion, as the cliche goes, shine through during the tough times, and Jedrzejczyk overcame her slow start to gradually pick apart Letourneau and take control of the contest. Winkeljohn said of Holly, “She’s got that instinct…”
Dana White also confirmed that a re-match was on the cards after the fight. Rousey got hit with a left and then clinched up and took Holm down.
“I think he’s a bad coach”.
Rousey was in no mood to exchange pleasantries before the match, she came forward trying to close the distance, missed with a right hand.
Since switching to MMA four years ago, her ground game has left much to be desired and many believed coming in against a champion who had beaten half of her opponents by armbar, grappling would prove to be the difference.
Holm’s low-key celebration is in stark contrast to the pre-flight preparations and media blitz for the first legal cage fight in Melbourne.
That isn’t to say Holm just automatically assumed she would beat the World’s Most Dominant Athlete.
“We don’t make fights the night of the fight, but the rematch makes a lot of sense”, he said. No question. Rousey talked about not wanting to fight again until July, 2016, prior to the loss.
In the build-up and aftermath of the fight, Rousey’s post has received over 100,000 comments. In the first minute of the fight, Holm proved that it will not be an easy one for the most dominated fighter. Of course, if Rousey loses the rematch, that’s when the UFC suffers colossal financial damage.
“The last thing a fighter wants to do is talk about a fight when they lose”, White told TMZ.
