Ronda Rousey takes center stage as host of ‘Saturday Night Live’
Despite the bad weather conditions, some fearless New Yorkers managed to get themselves down to 30 Rockefeller Center last night to see how Ronda Rousey would get on as she hosted Saturday Night Live.
For Rousey, hosting SNL further cements her as the UFC’s biggest and brightest star.
Ronda Rousey has kept a deliberately low profile since she lost her women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm on November 14 in Melbourne, Australia, in one of the greatest upsets in UFC history. Unfortunately, the MMA pro is sidelined for much of the episode, her talents underestimated and misused from the moment she walks into Studio 8H.
Meanwhile, this weekend, Rousey has SNL. Within the span of a couple of minutes she performed two separate singles (or at least parts of them) in “Good For You” and “Same Old Love”.
It is also possible that Cris Cyborg is trying to keep alive the potential of a superfight between her and Ronda Rousey alive.
“That’s enough!” Rousey said waving her hands in command. This shows not just her magnanimity but also her preparedness to take stock of things and overcome her shortcomings.
If Rousey keeps moving forward, there may be a spot for her in the entertainment industry that exists beyond playing the muscle woman.
She’d taken to posting quotes on her Instagram that seemed to show she was having hard getting over the loss. She surprised me and she surprised the world. But by means she has been humiliated as many people claimed.
Her appearance on Saturday Night Live showed another side of her. She was the loose, smiling and generally having fun Rousey that fans had come to know.
SNL returns on February 6 with Bernie Sanders impersonator and former writer Larry David hosting the show for the first time.
“She’s already pretty mainstream”, said Curran.
