Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm UFC 193 Fight Video
In arguably the biggest upset in the history of the sport, Holm fought the ideal fight as she set the tone by circling away from Rousey throughout the first round and countering with accuracy and power.
We have a new UFC bantammweight champion. Vegas gave Holm +700 odds to win the bout. I have not spent this much time in the gym before any fight in my life… “Every grab that she tried to get and clinch on the cage, and I just had help with everything”, Holm said.
She finished the fight with a huge head kick knockout that rendered Rousey unconscious in the second round.
BleacherReport.com shares their take on the story by citing their recent interview with the site’s senior columnist Mike Chiapetta who said that in moments of distraction, Rousey could be caught unguarded against Holm’s advantage: striking skills. Holm came with an undefeated record of 9-0.
As the American UFC bantamweight champion approached Holm for the obligatory stare down, the challenger put her fist in Rousey’s face and she responded with a raised elbow to swat her away.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk (11-0) kept the UFC strawweight belt around her waist by outclassing Canadian combatant Valerie Letourneau (8-3) in the co-headliner of UFC 193. Jedrzejczyk successfully defended her gold-plated strap by picking up a unanimous decision victory with lopsided numbers of 49-46, 49-46 and 50-45. She was simply marvelous in this fight, making Rousey fight exactly the way she needed Rousey to fight to have a chance at winning.
To cater to the UFC’s regular Saturday night television slot, the card will begin Sunday morning in Melbourne, with the main card scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. local time (10 p.m. EST).
Jared Rosholt won a unanimous decision of towering Dutchman Stefan Struve in a scrappy opening heavyweight bout of the main card.
