Ronnie Stanley: Yo, Laremy: Stanley says he’s best T in draft
Tennessee’s head coach and general manager may have revealed their intentions with the top pick at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Peter King wrote for his Monday Morning Quarterback column that the Tennessee Titans are all but sold on Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil as the first overall selection.
The 6-5, 310-pound Tunsil was as smooth at his first pro podium as he was dominating for the Rebels as he blocked everything in sight.
It certainly hasn’t been lost on National Football League executives, but the club that will kick things off at the draft in Chicago on April 28 is giving no clues to its intentions.
Tunsil has paid attention to the fact quarterback Marcus Mariota, last year’s No. 2 overall pick, was sacked 38 times in 12 starts as a rookie.
Conventional wisdom says the Titans will want to invest this year in a left tackle to enhance the life expectancy of last year’s investment.
The first day of the NFL Draft Combine is upon us, and though the primary activities may seem tedious and unexciting, it is an important day for numerous prospects. That’s the risk the Titans might be taking at No. 1 with Tunsil, and that’s why a trade down for perhaps Stanley or maybe an impact defender might wind up being their smartest play. That’s been my goal since I was a little kid, man, just to accomplish one of them goals, it would be great.
“It’s imperative you keep him upright and keep him able to throw the football”, Robinson said. “He is a good athlete, he has done a nice job”.
Tunsil said being the player to end that drought would mean a lot to him. Again, I haven’t met him yet.
It’s a lengthy path from “getting to know” and signing a deal.
“I think Taylor can play in a lot of places”.
Robinson discussed his plans for the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. “They had a little down season, and hopefully they draft me and I can help them win games, man, hopefully”.
“I think you can protect yourself better as a runner than you can as a pocket passer, ” he said.
“He’s very much a fit for the Titans especially since you get better at two positions”, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said.
It would give the team a tremendous prospect at left tackle, and it would allow the Titans to move Taylor Lewan – another first-round draft pick – to the right tackle position. Whether through discussions or just watching how he went about building the football team there in New England, I learned a lot of football from my time there.
