Rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs still practicing with first-team
Over the last two games, he has 13 receptions for 216 yards.
The Vikings (4-2) overcame an early 14-3 deficit to grab coach Mike Zimmer’s first NFC North road win in Detroit, 28-19 over the Lions (1-6) on Sunday afternoon. Now, Diggs could become a first-team fixture.
The Lions’ defense has bottled up Adrian Peterson today, but they can’t contain Diggs. Last week, Diggs provided exactly what the Vikings needed. And Diggs is hard to stop.
It’s fair to say that Diggs is the least heralded member of the Vikings’ receiving corps.
The Vikings are having trouble running the ball which makes the receiving game important.
“Diggs has been impressive since he got here”, Turner said Thursday. I’m not usually high on rookie wide receivers, but right now there isn’t a player more important to pick up if you’re in search of a flex option or a wide receiver two.
Locksley and his former pupil have remained close. I think he caught four balls in the first quarter.
Diggs caught seven passes for 129 yards in Johnson’s place, but his role for Sunday will be unclear with Johnson’s return.
“The big thing is that his short-area quickness is just ridiculous”, Locksley said.
Great for PPR leagues and also solid for standard leagues, this is a trending wide receiver who is just flashing potential that looks to be solidifying into consistent, reliable play. “I’m going to slow that down, he’s got a lot of work to do”.
Overall the Vikings will need better production from an offense that has mightily underachieved this year and they can’t keep relying on the defense to bail them out every game. Better for the Vikings. The offensive line held up in pass protection, only giving up two sacks and two quarterback hits.
After their past two games, it certainly seems so. “It was, ‘Hey we’re counting on you”.
