‘Room’ With Brie Larson Gets Release Date
Element Pictures producer Ed Guiney told TEN: “Room marks our fifth film with Lenny and has been an incredible film to work on with him and our wonderful cast and crew”. Earlier this year, Filmnation Entertainment sold out all worldwide rights to the film.
As the title implies, most of it takes place in a small, claustrophobic space; it’s also narrated by 5-year-old Jack, whom readers slowly realize is being held captive along with his mother, known only as Massachusetts. But while it’s home to Jack, to Massachusetts it’s a prison.
Room, based on the award-winning novel by Emma Donoghue, will be receiving its Canadian premiere at Toronto (which means its likely to make its initial bow at Telluride just before) and is staking its claim as a major Oscar contender. Macy, Joan Allen and Deadwood’s Sean Bridgers, who plays Old Nick, the man who trapped Jack and Massachusetts. But as Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.
Director Lenny Abrahamson (FRANK) remains faithful to the novel while bringing Jack, Massachusetts and their entirely singular world to heart-pounding and intensely cinematic life.
Room hits theaters in a limited release October. 16 and goes wide November 6.
