Rooney goal gives Man Utd victory over Liverpool
(CNN)Wayne Rooney scored for the fourth consecutive game to give Manchester United a vital 1-0 victory over bitter north-west rival Liverpool at Anfield Sunday.
At the other end Liverpool were only slightly more threatening, but only really tested United keeper David De Gea with two risky efforts from Roberto Firmino and Emre Can in the second half.
Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney was thrilled after ensuring a vital win over fierce rival Liverpool with a Premier League record goal.
After being dominated for the majority of the game, Manchester United found a way to steal all three points at Anfield.
“It’s a high-intensity game that is very important for the fans and it’s one of the most viewed games anywhere in the world”, Martial told MUTV.
Jurgen Klopp was unable to hide his frustration after watching his Liverpool side slip to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
They may be England’s two most decorated clubs, but Liverpool and United are not this season’s leading contenders and a scrappy, shapeless first half reflected both clubs’ recent difficulties.
The former midfielder, who also played as a left-back is here for a promotional event “ILoveUnitedIndia”, a fan-focused event which included the live screening of Club’s match against Liverpool here.
Wayne Rooney struck twice in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle United to keep the Red Devils within nine points of leaders Arsenal and Van Gaal now wants him to end a long run of his own at Anfield.
“I don’t know Louis too well but we have had a few intensive games”.
Van Gaal is clearly mistaken, or not expressing himself very well.
“I think he is a fantastic Manchester United striker for the media but he was also that in the first half of the season”. “I enjoyed the atmosphere against Arsenal but I think we can do better”.
“You can influence by changing players or communicating with players and that is why I sometimes come to the line”.
However, if anyone was going to win the game it looked as it would have been Liverpool, with the hosts outplaying an insipid United attack throughout large parts.
