Rooney Mara’s Ready for More Dragon Tattoo
Noting the news about The Girl In The Spiders Web moving forward, I asked if she had been approached by the studio about reprising Lisbeth Salander.
It’s not immediately clear why Sony wouldn’t have Mara return if she’s interested, while previous reports indicated that the studio had issues wrangling Craig back for the follow-up because he wanted more money – and after Fincher’s $90 million Dragon Tattoo movie underperformed at the box office, a pay raise for a sequel seems unlikely.
“As far as I know, I’m doing it until someone tells me otherwise”, she laughs to Eonline.com. It was speculated that Sony had made a decision to move in different direction from David Fincher’s film, which meant a departure from original stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.
Meanwhile, Rooney, who is the sister of actress Kate Mara, has five movies lined up to debut in 2016, including an as yet untitled project by Terrence Malick.
“I just kind of knew that it was meant to happen”. “And then I still might do it!”, Mara said.
THR also reported that Daniel and Rooney were not in contention for roles while The Wrap claimed that Alicia Vikander was being considered to play Lisbeth.
It was recently announced that The Girl in the Spider’s Web was gaining ground with a new writer, according to Variety. It seems she isn’t too keen on abandoning the role that helped launch her career and earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Or maybe Mara won’t be replaced at all, although if Sony is looking to reboot the franchise, they likely wouldn’t want to remind folks of Fincher’s film by keeping Mara in the lead role.
