Rory McIlroy to test injured ankle at site of PGA Championship
The Northern Irishman has not played since rupturing the anterior ligament in his left ankle at the start of July.
An employee at Whistling Straits told Reuters he was not allowed to comment on scheduled practice rounds by players before the championship.
McIlroy, the reigning PGA champion, said recently he was taking a “long term view” of the injury he suffered while playing football with friends and would not risk greater harm by returning to competition too soon. The same happened with this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, an event that’s extremely lucrative, competitive, and one of the season’s biggest non-major events.

McIlroy finished one shot out of the Martin Kaymer-Bubba Watson playoff when the PGA was last held at Whistling Straits, in 2010.
