Rouhani: We will respond decisively to any violation of the nuclear agreement
As for pursuing a better deal, why would Iran ever sign another agreement with us?
If the United States decides to break the agreement, Rouhani said that “any choice and any option” are open for Iran “that we see as beneficial to our country” but he dismissed Trump’s “baseless accusation” that the nuclear deal may be providing cover for Iran’s eventual construction of nuclear weapons. It seems like U.S. foreign policy will have a certain focus on the Iranian regime.
“If you simply condemn and threaten, then we’re going to antagonize countries over whom we want to exert influence”, said Lavrov, referring to Trump’s comments.
Ministers from the seven parties to the agreement met at United Nations headquarters late Wednesday and agreed that all sides are fully implementing the deal, European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said.
Part of the agreement dictates that the US president must “re-certify” every 90 days whether the Iranians are in compliance with the terms.
Rohani had stressed the difficulty of reaching agreement to a complex deal that involved seven nations, including France, Germany, Russia, China, and Britain in addition to the United States and Iran.
If Washington rips up Iran’s nuclear deal, it will send the wrong message to North Korea and shake its faith in diplomacy, Russia’s United Nations envoy Vassily Nebenzia said at the United Nations meeting on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Earlier this week, Trump declared that he had made a decision on how to proceed with the Iran nuclear deal but we will have to wait for further details.
Trump’s pugnacious United Nations speech may empower hardliners in Iran, who are pushing for global isolation and who discourage already wary foreign investors.
“This is what causes the regime to restrict internet access, tear down satellite dishes, shoot unarmed student protesters, and imprison political reformers” was relayed as: “Many incidents happen in Iran which are unacceptable to us”.
In his speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Mr Tump mocked North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and described him as a “rocket man” for his repeated ballistic missile tests.
European diplomats, while sharing these concerns, are becoming exasperated by this argument – insisting the accord was designed exclusively to stop Iran getting the bomb. She says the deal’s preservation is important at a critical time in the world.
CHANG: So under the deal, Iran cut back its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. “Ultimately, I don’t think we did really anywhere near what we could have”. “But I can say this: None were bolder, none were more courageous and forthright than the one delivered by President Trump today”.
French President Emmanuel Macron was also more of must-see compared to the UK PM.
“We therefore are in no need of new conquests”, he said.
“Is this accord enough?”
“By violating its global commitments, the new U.S. administration only destroys its own credibility”. “It’s sort of a one shoe on, one shoe off foreign policy”. It was not an angry tone at all.
What’s in the agreement and why does it matter?
Trump is due to report to the US Congress on Oct 15 on whether or not he believes that Iran is in compliance with the nuclear deal.
If Trump decides to torch the deal, we will most likely face the choice of watching as Tehran resumes progress toward acquiring nukes or launching another Mideast war in the hope of halting it.
But Trump did not give any indication of what his decision is, or when he will reveal it.
